Kariega Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape is celebrating the birth of six cheetah cubs, marking an important addition to South Africa’s managed cheetah population.
The female cheetah and her cubs are doing well and are being carefully monitored but they will remain in a secure boma until an injury she sustained, shortly before giving birth, has healed.
The cubs represent a valuable contribution to the Endangered Wildlife Trust’s Cheetah Metapopulation Project, which supports the long-term conservation and genetic health of cheetahs living across fenced reserves in South Africa.

Kariega has also reported progress in the recovery of an injured male cheetah. The reserve hopes to welcome him back during September when he will be reunited with his coalition partner.
In the meantime, guests visiting Kariega in the coming weeks should note that the reserve’s cheetahs will temporarily remain off the reserve while undergoing treatment.
