Elewana is set to open Ngorongoro Explorer Lodge in Tanzania in June 2027. Located at the highest point of the of the eastern rim overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater, the journey time to the crater gate is just 15 minutes.
The lodge is also near Olduvai Gorge, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
The property will have 84 rooms: 45 double, 29 twin, six for families and four designed to accommodate people living with disabilities. Each room will have a mini bar, phone, kettle, tea and coffee station and universal charging units. An additional multimedia room will host conferences and other events for up to 40 people.
The main area will include a restaurant and outdoor boma-style dining experience as well as pool and terrace bars, café serving tea and coffee and a wine cellar.
The spa will have four rooms (including one double treatment room), a sauna, rasul chamber, cold plunge and vitality pools and a gym. An infinity pool will overlook the crater.
The lodge was designed by 2802 Architects, who were also involved in Elewana’s Serengeti Explorer, with interiors by Jallan Sahba. The contemporary design blends into the surroundings with a palette of neutral and dark colours.
It is being built on the site of a pre-existing property, which means the 84-room lodge will not add any additional bed nights to the local area.
Experiences will include crater floor game drives, cultural talks, stargazing, a photographic studio, yoga and meditation and an indoor cinema.
