Fregate Island to reopen after restoration

Fregate Island is set to reopen towards the end of 2026 after extensive renovations and ecological restoration.

The private island, closed since February 2022, will house 17 villas and estates with a dedicated 24-hour butler and a buggy for exploring the island. The island will feature a multi-functional sports court, a museum, conservation centre, full-service spa, gym, hyperbaric chamber and snow room.

A range of water-based activities will be available, including snorkelling, sailing, game fishing and inter-island cruises.

Much of the four-year closure involved conservation work, including protecting the surrounding beaches where 1% of the world’s population of hawksbill turtles nest. On 90% of the island, conservation efforts protect over 3 000 free-roaming Aldabra giant tortoises, turtle nests and rare birds endemic to the area.
