Recent industry conference programmes and other industry communications suggest SA Tourism may have undergone a leadership change with Sechaba Motsieloa identified as the organisation’s Interim CEO despite no formal announcement from SA Tourism or the Department of Tourism at the time of publication.
Motsieloa has been listed as representing SA Tourism in the capacity of Interim CEO at several industry events, raising questions about whether the destination marketing organisation has quietly changed its leadership.
The apparent change follows SA Tourism’s announcement in February that Shamilla Chettiar was appointed Acting CEO while then CEO Nombulelo Guliwe remained on suspension pending a disciplinary process.
At the time, SA Tourism said Chettiar’s appointment would strengthen the destination marketing organisation’s executive leadership capacity and institutional stability. Chettiar, the Department of Tourism’s Deputy Director General for Destination Development, also served as one of six members of SA Tourism’s interim Board appointed in August last year.
In March, SA Tourism announced the appointments of Sithembile Ndaba as Chief Marketing Officer and Ismail Dockrat as Chief Operating Officer.
Tourism Update awaits clarification from SA Tourism and the Department of Tourism on Motsieloa’s role, whether Chettiar has concluded her tenure as Acting CEO and when any leadership change took effect.
