Major events not a priority for operators

Last week, Tourism Update asked whether travel agents or tour operators develop travel packages around major events in Southern and East Africa, such as international sporting events, conferences and conventions.

The majority of respondents (64%) said that major events were not part of their business. 11% said that while it is not currently part of their business, they are considering it. 19% said that they occasionally develop packages around major events, and 6% said that they regularly make major events part of their business.

Tipping is common practice on African safaris, but it can also be a source of confusion and uncertainty for travellers. Some guests are unfamiliar with tipping customs or feel that gratuities should be included in the overall cost of their trip. Others worry about how much to tip, whether they might cause offence by giving too little, or having enough cash in the correct currency.

With electronic tipping increasingly available as an alternative to cash, Tourism Update would like to know: Would your clients prefer to tip electronically or in cash?
