The new curated Soweto Art Tour, by Toura Travel Therapy, is now available to visitors in Johannesburg, offering travellers a route through one of South Africa’s most historic and culturally significant urban areas.
The new art-focused tour has been launched by Thabo Modise, Founding Director of Toura Travel Therapy, also known as Thabo the Tourist.
According to Modise, the initiative “intertwines art and travel, offering a unique tourist experience that implores travellers to think beyond the confines of ordinary tours”.
The experience includes stops at galleries, murals and public artworks throughout Soweto, aiming to interpret local history through creative expression. Modise describes art as “the only medium of communication that transcends language and location, which allows people from all walks of life an opportunity to interpret a story and build from their own understanding.”
He adds: “One of the great delights of this art tour is the storytelling that happens along the route, helping piece together what you may see and the reality that motivated the end product.”
