Nyumbu Luxury Collection is preparing to open a new lodge, Upeo Serengeti, in Tanzania’s northern Serengeti with a soft opening scheduled for September.
The lodge’s name, Upeo, meaning “horizon” in Swahili, reflects the property’s design, which frames expansive views across the northern Serengeti landscape.
The design intends to integrate with the surrounding environment. The lodge has been constructed within a granite inselberg landscape. An indigenous wood feature tunnel, part of the arrival experience, temporarily obscures the view before revealing the horizon.
The property will feature 10 open-plan villas, including two for families and two for honeymoons. Each villa offers 180-degree views across the Serengeti with a private boma sunset deck and infinity plunge pool, standalone handcrafted bathtubs as well as indoor and outdoor rain showers.
Interior design elements were developed by a Tanzanian design team led by Egani, drawing on the natural colour palette of the surrounding environment. Décor incorporates earth tones and metallic textures intended to reflect the site’s natural characteristics.
Upeo Serengeti will also include the Pangoni Wellness spa offering treatments using locally sourced natural ingredients.
