Tanzania launches coastal tourism support

Tanzania has launched StawiBluu, an approximately US$18.5 million (R304.5 million) project aimed at supporting sustainable tourism and aquaculture businesses in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

The project was launched in Dar es Salaam on October 8. According to the European Union Delegation to Tanzania, it is co-financed by the European Union and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by GIZ.

Working in Dar es Salaam, Bagamoyo, Unguja, Pemba and Mafia, StawiBluu will connect entrepreneurs with finance, markets, skills and business opportunities. Tourism support will focus on developing more sustainable and diversified products and services while promoting the sustainable use of coastal and marine resources.

The project will provide business development support, help businesses prepare for investment and strengthen local value chains.

“Through StawiBluu, the German Development Cooperation and the European Union are supporting Tanzanian businesses and entrepreneurs to strengthen their businesses, develop sustainable products and services and turn new ideas into viable opportunities,” said Annett Guenther, Germany’s Ambassador Designate to Tanzania.
