Atlantic Seaboard hotel enters final phase of revamp

The final phase of the refurbishment of the Protea Hotel President in Cape Town will begin this month.

Fifty-one rooms and apartments, mainly on the first floor, will be refurbished over the next four months. General Manager, Peter Buitendag, said the project had been completed in stages to minimise the impact on guests and added that construction during the fourth phase would take place on weekdays from from 08h00 to 17h00.

All public areas have already undergone extensive refurbishment. New features include flat-screen TVs in all new rooms; laminate flooring has replaced carpets; and curtains and furniture have been replaced.

Protea Hospitality Group Marketing and Advertising Manager, Nicholas Barenblatt, said the renovation had taken the Protea Hotel President into a new league. “Our guest feedback on the improvements has been tremendously positive,” he said.

Work began in October 2008 and 238 of the hotel’s 349 rooms have already been refurbished.
