Chitabe Camp in the Okavango Delta has announced plans to rebuild the main camp buildings and elevated walkways in the first five months of next year. The camp is set to reopen in June.
The new design has been created by Mark Thomas and his team, the same designers responsible for the Boomslang walkway in Cape Town’s Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
CEO of Chitabe Camp, Helene Hamman, said: “We want to rebuild the main area in the most responsible and sustainable way possible.”
Thomas adds: “The under-thatch design of the new elevated buildings focuses on a ‘less is more’ philosophy, combining the tasteful and responsible use of modern and traditional materials to produce an environmentally respectful safari experience that is still visually and sensually pleasing.”
The main area will feature indoor and under-star dining experiences and an elevated sand deck will be the central heart of Chitabe. Other new amenities include a library, lap pool, relaxation lounge and gym.
