East London golf estate gets go-ahead

THE Department of Agriculture and the Great Kei Municipality have given the go-ahead for the Chintsa River Golf Estate, 30km outside of East London. The billion-rand estate is being developed by David Eastall, and construction will begin later this year. The development will include a 160-room resort hotel, an 180-hole championship golf course and golfing academy, a housing complex, an office park and a retail centre. The estate will be situated on almost 500 hectares of land on the Chintsa River. It is also bordered by the Inkwenkwezi Game Reserve. Eastall aims to maintain the estate along the lines of a wildlife sanctuary with a strict environmental management plan aimed at restoring and conserving the indigenous fauna and flora.
