THE recent cold snap has brought South Africa more snow for the winter season in parts of the Eastern Cape, Lesotho and the KwaZulu Natal Drakensberg. The Senqu area, including Lady Grey, Rhodes and Barkly East, has reported that the sudden interest has prompted them to establish a special snow line, which can be reached on 082 200 9429. Says Ivan van Eck, director of South Africa’s only ski resort, Tiffindell: “This is the most snowfall experienced this early in seven years.” Van Eck advises travellers to prepare for a cold winter and adds that temperatures at the resort in April and May are the coldest experienced in a decade. There have already been seven snowfalls at the resort since April, measuring in total about 50cm of snow. Natalia Thomson (nataliat@nowmedia.co.za)
