THE policy of no smoking in public places and in the workplace has been firmly adopted by Cape Town's Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, however this is reportedly giving cause to some heated criticism from those who have been attending the Summer Sunset Concert season.
A spokesperson said, "People making announcements at our concerts have always mentioned the need to refrain from smoking if this would inconvenience other concert-goers. However, on one or two occasions, this announcement has been unintentionally left out.
"All buildings at Kirstenbosch and other National Botanical Gardens have been designated no-smoking zones. It is important that non-smoking members of the public be aware of what legally constitutes a public place. According to the most recent laws, a public place means any indoor or enclosed area which is open to the public. For the sake of all our visitors, we will continue to urge people to refrain from smoking at all our outdoor public events."
