A new platform has been launched to connect independently owned properties with a network of preferred African travel specialists.
Named VAST Africa, the concept has been developed by Founder Suzanne Bayly with the intention of galvanising a movement exploring destinations and experiences through the lens of impact, connection and authenticity.
The platform enables travellers to explore by destination, theme or experience and then plan their journeys via a VAST preferred travel specialist – directly with a member or through their own agents. It will not manage bookings but instead generates direct leads and engagement.
A statement announcing the concept reads: “VAST members are responsible tourism leaders, entities that give more to Africa than they take away. In the face of growing concerns around extractive tourism and foreign-owned models that fail to serve local communities, VAST represents a shift towards tourism shaped by Africa for Africa. These are businesses deeply rooted in place, committed to celebrating cultural diversity, safeguarding natural ecosystems and ensuring tourism uplifts and empowers.”
“Travellers today are seeking more than just beautiful places, they want to feel something, to connect and to know their presence matters,” says Bayly. “VAST was created to showcase the kind of travel that does just that. It celebrates businesses doing things differently and gives them a united platform to reach a like-minded global audience.”
