THE Tollman family and the Red Carnation Group have acquired the Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga Rocks. Plans are in place for a major refurbishment of the hotel, expected to commence in early 2007 and be completed by early 2008. The number of rooms will be increased from 72, to between 90 and 100 rooms. The Grill Room restaurant will be renovated to maximise the sea views and the conference and banqueting facilities will be upgraded and increased. The hotel will remain open during the refurbishment process. Clive Bennet, the newly-appointed md of Red Carnation Hotels in South Africa, will be responsible for the Oyster Box Hotel, as well as other Red Carnation properties, including The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa and Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Retreat.
