Train Tour Hackathon for tourism

The Premier Classe Train will travel from Johannesburg to Cape Town over 36 hours

Zulu Nomad, Geekulcha and BrownSense InSight will be hosting the Africa Travel Hackathon from September 5-8 for coders, designers and data scientists to produce viable technological projects/solutions for tourism industry.

#TrainTourHack will travel on the Premier Classe Train from Johannesburg to Cape Town over 36 hours. While onboard 20 teams will be working on solutions for challenges ranging from tourist safety, apps for niche markets and business-to-business solutions for its largely offline SMMEs.

Entrants can choose from five categories or combine them to base their project/solution on. These are accommodation, experience, logistics, tours and attractions and travel medium.

The goal of the #TrainTourHack is to produce viable solutions which will be taken forward for development post the hackathon. In this regard, the winning team will be funded towards the development of the solutions.

The main objectives include:

  • Creating seamless and personalized visitor experiences from pre-to post-trip
  • Generate productivity gains and cost savings for tourism businesses
  • Increase revenue for tourism businesses/visitors’ spending
  • Deepen insights on visitors
  • Enable more employment opportunities in the tourism sector
