A new terminal is being built at Kasane International Airport, Botswana, to accommodate more passengers.
Currently, the airport can accommodate 200 passengers an hour and after expansion this will increase to 230 passengers per hour. “The Passenger Terminal Building will be able to handle 387 000 passengers annually,” Modipe Nkwe, Public Affairs Manager at the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) told Tourism Update.
Work includes the construction of a new terminal building, with ground and mezzanine floors. An air traffic control tower will be built adjacent to the passenger terminal and the existing tower will be converted to a fire and rescue services watch tower, says Nkwe. The old terminal building will be refurbished.
The two-phase expansion project was started in 2011 and is expected to be complete by June next year.
Plans are also under way to expand Maun International Airport, a CAAB official told Tourism Update, while a new airport control tower and technical block have just been completed.
