Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced that a Hyatt affiliate entered into an agreement with ASB Tanzania Ltd. to manage the Hyatt Regency in Tanzania. The city centre hotel has commenced operating as Hyatt Regency Dar Es Salaam, The Kilimanjaro, and has joined the existing Hyatt-branded hotels on the African continent.
Located in East Africa, Hyatt Regency Dar Es Salaam has 180 rooms, including 18 suites, two restaurants and three bars, more than 900sqm of meeting and event space, including a 400m ballroom and 9 banquet rooms, and a spa and outdoor infinity pool and fitness centre.
Originally built by the Tanzanian government in 1965, the hotel was purchased by its current owner in 2002 and underwent a $55 million renovation. It officially re-opened in 2005 under the name The Kilimanjaro Hotel Kempinski.
