Lion Park operating as normal

THE Lion Park in Muldersdrift, just outside Johannesburg, is operating normally after a shooting at the property’s restaurant on Sunday (July 6).

A visitor to the park was shot when he startled armed robbers at the scene. The park was closed after the shooting but has since reopened. Some tourists were robbed of personal possessions and no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the robbery.

Ian Melass, gm, says people must understand that these are normal happenings in South Africa. “This happens at least 50 times a day. It was just our chance.”

No immediate action has been taken security-wise at the property but Melass says the park is looking at methods of upgrading security on the property. “We are open as normal, just with a very traumatised staff.”
