Malawi: Did you know?

DID you know that Lake Malawi is referred to as ‘The Lake of Stars’? When British explorer David Livingstone came upon the lake in 1859 he called it the Lake of Stars because of the glittering surface of the lake in the African sun. In fact Livingstone named Cape Maclear, now a popular resort area in the Lake Malawi National Park, after his friend Sir Thomas Maclear, Astronomer Royal at the Cape of Good Hope.

Continuing with Livingstone’s legacy, every year Lake Malawi is host to the Lake of Stars International Music Festival, held on Livingstonia Beach in Senga Bay.
