Nico Bezuidenhout has announced that he is to resign as CEO of Mango Airlines and executive director of Mango.
He tendered his resignation on Thursday, June 9, and it will come into effect July 31. He has been with the airline since it launched ten years ago.
“During his tenure at Mango, Nico has led one of the most successful airline brands South Africa has ever seen. In an industry that is not only complex, but highly competitive and challenging, Mango has not only led the sector, but prospered,” Mango Chairperson, Rashid Wally said in a statement, adding that Mango had been profitable for eight out of 10 full fiscals.
“On behalf of the Board, the management team and every employee at Mango, I would like to thank Nico for an incredible decade at Mango,” said Wally.
Bezuidenhout commented: “Mango has given me 10 years of awesome. There is no other way to describe the incredible business that it has become; not only commercially, but culturally.” He said he would take his leave from the airline to pursue further career opportunities. “At this juncture, I thank the Mango Board and its Chairperson, Rashid Wally, the executive and management of Mango as well as every member of the Mango team, and most of all my family for your exceptional commitment and support. I look forward to seeing you write the next chapter.”
Fastjet has announced that Bezuidenhout will join the airline as CEO, effective 1 August. He will replace Ed Winter, who stepped down on March 18.
"The Board is delighted that Nico will be joining fastjet as CEO. He brings strong commercial and strategic skills and a wealth of experience of operating a low-cost carrier," said fastjet Chairman Colin Child. “This experience, together with his detailed knowledge of the markets in which fastjet operates, will be invaluable to the Company as it seeks to capture the growth opportunities in the region."
