New owner for Kwandwe Private Game Reserve

Kwandwe Private Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape has been bought by the US-based Chouest family, according to a statement released by the reserve.

Previous owner, Carl DeSantis, who is consolidating his international investments, wanted to ensure that the reserve was passed on to someone who shared the passion and commitment for the area that he and partner Erika Stewart have had over the past 14 years.

“Conservation lies at the heart of the Chouests' investment in Kwandwe and the important biomes and species it strives to conserve. The Chouest family have committed to improving on and investing in the hospitality offering, as well as pledging their on-going support of Kwandwe's rural community development initiatives through the Angus Gillis Foundation,” said the statement.

It is business as usual at Kwandwe, and all staff are being retained, including Angus and Tracy Sholto-Douglas, who remain the Managing Director couple.

"We certainly look forward to working with the Chouest family and expanding the common vision that we have for this wonderful part of Africa. Our guests will continue to enjoy the delights the reserve has to offer them. We would also like to thank Carl and Erika for their passion, support and dedication over the past 14 years. They will be greatly missed,” said Angus Sholto-Douglas.
