David Scowsill will be leaving the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) after being President and CEO of the organisation for six years.
“It has been a privilege to lead WTTC, representing the global interests of the private sector of Travel & Tourism, through advocacy with governments around the world. The membership of the organisation has doubled in the last period, but more significant has been the work with governments at all levels on the key strategic issues for the sector,” said Scowsill.
Scowsill has been President and CEO of WTTC since October 2010. Prior to that, he served as Chairman or Director with various companies, working for six years in Private Equity and Venture Capital. He was Chief Executive of Opodo and the Minit Group, after holding executive and board positions at Hilton Hotels, American Airlines and British Airways.
Ella Cuyler has been appointed General Manager of Miavana, Madagascar. Cuyler was previously General Manager of safari establishments in Botswana and Zambia and for the last seven years, was General Manager of Ellerman House in Cape Town.
“I feel privileged to be part of the opening team of Miavana. Our aim is to focus on guest satisfaction in a five-star environment but with an island touch to it,” said Cuyler.
Jill Wagner has joined Great Plains Conservation as Product Manager.
Wagner has been in the tourism and hospitality industry her entire career, having worked for Southern Sun, Halcyon Hotels, Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Retreat and most recently Red Carnation Hotels. She brings experience from working Front Office, Food and Beverage and Sales & Marketing and Third Party Product management.

Chris Modigell has resigned as Group General Manager for the BlueBay Resorts in Zanzibar after being contracted for two years to help grow the hotels.
“I am leaving in the knowledge that many improvements have been made with over 45% increased occupancies, improved facilities and services resulting in much better TripAdvisor etc ratings, a first TUI Top Quality award and increased profitability that would allow the owners to further invest to face the ever increasing competition” said Modigell.
Asanda Maneli has been appointed first female porter of Radisson Blu hotel in Port Elizabeth. Maneli’s duties entail greeting guests, carrying luggage, showing guests to their rooms, advising on hotel facilities and, driving guests to and from the airport.
“We are a people business and are always looking for great people to join our team. Asanda is proving to be a great asset to our hotel, testament to this is our guests asking for her by name,” said Yashvir Jithoo, General Manager of Radisson Blu Port Elizabeth.
