SAA has successfully undergone its second Iata Operational Safety Audit (Iosa), showing once more it meets aviation’s most stringent safety standards. SAA was one of the first African airlines registered with Iosa in 2005. The national carrier says it is the only airline in Africa to comply with recommended safety standards for its entire passenger fleet, while other airlines choose to exclude certain aircraft. The audit, carried out every two years, takes into account organisation and management; flight operations; engineering and maintenance; ground handling; operational control and flight dispatch; cabin operations; cargo operations (dangerous goods) and operational security. Iata member airlines are required to undergo the safety audit by the end of this year to retain their membership of the organisation. All new members have to undergo the safety audit before joining.
