The facilities at the Sandveld Nature Reserve in the Free State have been upgraded.
New chalets have been built and 10 existing chalets have been renovated. All chalets have been supplied with furniture and linen. A new ablution block has been constructed and the caravan park has been relocated to a new caravan site. The camping site was also electrified and concrete tables have been installed. The entrance gate has been renovated and signage has been installed in the reserve.
The project’s implementation started in March 2011, and saw an investment of R28,8m. The renovation was part of the environmental projects that the Department of Environmental Affairs is funding through its Environmental Protection and Infrastructure Programme. The Department has committed a further R15m, which will be used for a five-kilometre entrance road.
