Upgrades planned for Manyane Game Lodge

Manyane Game Lodge, which borders the Mafikeng Game Reserve in North West, will undergo upgrades as part of a greater initiative between the National Department of Tourism and the North West Parks and Tourism Board.

The initiative, which seeks to alleviate poverty and develop skills, will employ 150 local people and is estimated to be completed by December 31, 2015.

“We have got to have a social relationship with the local people, more especially those living adjacent to provincial game reserves,” said MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism, Motlalepula Rosho. “With the amount of investment we have received for the upgrade of the Manyane Lodge tourism infrastructure, there are natural benefits that are gained by our communities, such as jobs and skills.”

Allan Losaba, Chief Executive of the NWPTB, said the infrastructure upgrade included the construction of a 500-seat conference facility; the refurbishment of 20 existing chalets; and the construction of 10 executive chalets and a 250-seat restaurant.

“The investment comes at an opportune time when Mafikeng’s business tourism is growing.  The upgrade of Manyane will enhance Mafikeng’s capacity in terms of accommodation and conferencing,” said Losaba. “The cherry on top is that Manyane is located inside the Mafikeng Game Reserve, and therefore visitors are guaranteed a good mix of products, which will ultimately enhance their experience.”
