Imvelo Safari Lodges recently opened Jozibanini Camp in the remote south-west area of Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, after it had been unused for 20 years.
The camp is small and exclusive with a semi-desert ecosystem. A unique feature is game viewing by mountain bike through the fossil sand dunes and valleys.
Imvelo recommends the camp as a two-day add-on for guests from its other Hwange properties – Bomani, Camelthorn and Nehimba. Jozibanini is an extended game drive – six hours – from the other Hwange properties with a picnic incorporated with Imvelo’s ‘pump runs’. In the pump run programme, Imvelo encourages guests to assist with resupplying waterholes en route to the camp.
The nearest airstrip is Somalisa, near Manga, a three-hour game drive from the camp. From next year Jozibanini will have a fully functional airstrip.
Accommodation includes three twin or double-bed tents on raised wooden decks tucked under shepherds bush and camelthorn trees.
Walks and game drives are available with a licensed guide. Game viewing is available during the day and at night from Jozibanini’s ‘Look-up’ underground hide.
