Calls for revamp of Zim’s Buffalo Range Airport

The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe has been challenged to upgrade Buffalo Range Airport in Chiredzi to international standards to draw more tourists to the region, according to a report by Zimbabwe’s The Standard.

Tourism, wildlife and conservation experts believe the upgrading of the airport will boost tourist arrivals to visit Gonarezhou National Park, which forms part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, which stretches between Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique.

Willie Nduku, Director of Wildlife and Environment Zimbabwe, a non-governmental organisation working largely with local communities in the Chiredzi district, believes the airport is strategically located to service travellers visiting the area, and says most tourists intending to visit the Transfrontier Park arrive through airports in Harare, South Africa and Mozambique, making it costly to visit the area.
