A fire that broke out on Saturday night in Redhill, Cape Town, and Table Mountain National Park has not yet been contained, confirmed Theo Layne, Media Spokesperson City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service.
Layne said the fire had spread to the Kommetjie area, Kleinplaas Dam and Ocean View and that five helicopters were water bombing the area and numerous fire-fighting vehicles had been deployed.
Currently, no properties are in danger, Layne said. “However, areas in the surrounding nature reserves have been damaged.”

Tarcia Hendricks, Public Relations Officer: Cape Region for SANParks, said the fire spanned across Redhill (upper Simon’s Town), Scarborough, Misty Cliffs and Ocean View.
Hendricks added that Table Mountain National Park is not closed to visitors, however due to the fire, the road between Kommetjie and Misty Cliffs is closed. Scarborough main road, between Red Hill and Kommetjie, is also closed.
“The fire is being spread by strong winds into many areas that are inaccessible to our normal conventional fire-fighting vehicles. As a result, we are using ground crews,” said Layne.
A spokesperson for Fynbos Hill, a beach house in Scarborough, said the fire had moved past the property and that the beach house no longer appeared to be at risk.
