Lufthansa Group’s newest leisure airline, Eurowings Discover, touched down in Mauritius for the first time on Saturday (October 2).
The new carrier departed from Frankfurt on October 1, using an Airbus A330-200.
Eurowings Discover will initially operate two weekly connections from Frankfurt to Mauritius, increasing to three weekly connections from November.
“This flight is another important milestone for our new airline Eurowings Discover: not only is Mauritius among the first five destinations in our flight schedule, but with this attractive addition to our current portfolio, we are further strengthening our tourism offering to customers from all over the world,” said Helmut Woelfel, Chief Commercial Officer of Eurowings Discover.
“With our multiple connections and vast network that we can offer as part of the Lufthansa Group, we can fly even more travellers to the beautiful island of Mauritius.”

Mauritius reopened its borders on October 1, 2021, with one of the highest full vaccination rates in Africa, currently standing at over 60% of the overall population and 82% percent of the local adult population.
“We adopted a health-first approach, with strict protocols to protect the population, from the beginning of the pandemic. Our public health services continue to operate to their normal capacity, with protocols being updated when relevant,” explained Dr Kailesh Jagutpal, Minister of Health and Wellness.
“We instituted airport screening and the quarantining of travellers since 2020. Our vaccination roll-out has been systematic, and we have already exceeded our target of fully vaccinated adults well ahead of the complete reopening of our borders on Friday.”
