Monday smile: Monkey business

While visiting Cape Point a few years ago, friends and I stopped along the way to watch a troop of baboons near the road. The car in front of us had four tourists, who despite the numerous signs asking the public not to feed the baboons, opted to do the opposite.

One tourist started teasing a large male baboon by putting some food through the window then quickly pulling it back inside the car. This was followed by tons of laughter by all four tourists.

But, eventually the baboon grew tired of being teased and jumped onto the bonnet of the tourist’s car, grabbed hold of their aerial and bent it exactly in half, then casually jumped off the car and walked away.

The funniest part of this whole scenario was not what the baboon had done, but the faces of the tourists who were sitting in the car with wide eyes and open mouths. Nobody can ever accuse us South Africans (or our South African wildlife) of not being an interesting bunch of individuals.
