Nedbank launches prepaid travel card

Nedbank has launched a prepaid card that offers a convenient means of transacting and serves as a unique souvenir of South Africa.

The prepaid card is not limited to Nedbank clients or to persons with a bank account. Anyone can apply as the only requirement is positive identification. A once-off card purchase fee of R30 and a load fee of 2,5% -- every time money is loaded – is payable. All transactions thereafter are free.

Tourists coming to South Africa can utilise the Nedbank Visa prepaid card instead of carrying cash or traveller’s cheques. All they need to do to obtain the card is present their passport at any Nedbank branch.

The card features visuals of the South African flag and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

According to Sydney Gericke, Managing Executive Nedbank: Card, the true value of the new prepaid card lies in the fact that there are no credit checks required, so everyone can have one.  It is safe, and allows card holders – at no transaction fee – to withdraw money from any ATM, and pay for all their purchases – such as food, clothing, airtime and petrol, for example.
