New art gallery for Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre

The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) has launched its new Community Art Gallery, which forms part of the centre’s community development programme. The aim of the project is to raise awareness about various animal species, many of which are endangered, and raise funds for the HESC.

In collaboration with interior designer Gert Gertzen, the new facility was conceptualised to showcase works by local artists with wildlife as their main subject matter. A percentage of all funds raised will go directly to the running costs of the centre and its many animal residents. A variety of artworks on display are available for sale.

The centre also aims to give underprivileged learners the opportunity to learn about art as a means of self-expression. “The next step of the art gallery will be to involve our local rural schools by giving talented school children the opportunity to exhibit at the gallery,” said Camp Jabulani’s General Manager, Carl Olen. “Some of the artists have offered to conduct special training workshops where these children can learn new skills and techniques.”
