SAA and South America’s TAM Airlines have implemented a codeshare agreement.
SAA will place its ‘SA’ code on flights operated by TAM from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Brasília, Salvador, Florianopolis, Iguaçu Falls, Recife and Belo Horizonte.
TAM will place its ‘JJ’ code on flights operated by SAA between São Paulo and Johannesburg, and to other cities within South Africa such as Cape Town, Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth. SAA currently has 11 flights a week between Johannesburg and São Paulo and has an extensive schedule from Johannesburg to these coastal South African cities.
Manoj Papa, SAA’s acting GM, commercial added that the codeshare provided a platform to tap into the potential that lay in both carriers’ respective markets in a manner that would significantly enhance benefits for passengers of both airlines. Besides the options available to leisure travellers, SAA believes that it will provide access to multiple business centres.
Customers who are members of SAA’s loyalty programme, Voyager, will continue to earn miles and obtain tier status when travelling on TAM flights. Likewise, members of the TAM Fidelidade programme will earn and redeem points when they travel on SAA flights.
The codeshare flights went on sale on August 28 with travel set to commence on September 2.
