Thompsons Africa has unveiled a new tour – ‘Botswana & Caprivi Explorer’.
The eight-day tour spends three nights in Botswana exploring the Okavango Delta. After arriving in Maun, guests check in at Maun Lodge and enjoy a sunset cruise on the Thamalakane River. Next morning, guests enjoy a walk through Maun before spending the day travelling north-west, along the Okavango Delta, to Lawdons Lodge, famous for its prolific game, birds and indigenous fish.
An adventurous traditional, guided ‘mokoro’ (canoe) day trip through the Delta is an optional extra excursion and alternative to a day at leisure spent around the pool or on a walk along the banks of the Kwando River. A late afternoon sundowner cruise, on the Okavango River, rounds off the day.
On day four, guests cross the border into Namibia’s Mahango National Park for a game drive to view a variety of rare species of buck, before traveling to Popa Falls for a short walk and viewing. Two nights are spent at Camp Kwando in the Caprivi Strip, which is surrounded by four mighty rivers. Highlights include; dinner under the stars, game viewing on the private reserve and neighbouring national parks, and a tour of a traditional village to learn about fishing and hunting techniques and how dances are used to cure illnesses and other problems, from a local medicine man.
On day six, guests cross back into Botswana to visit Chobe National Park, aptly known as the ‘Land of the giants’ because it is home to the largest concentration of elephants in Africa. Here, guests will enjoy game drives and sunset cruising on the Chobe River.
On the last day, guests travel onward from Kasane. An extended tour, Majestic Victoria Falls, is recommended.
Tours depart on selected Mondays and accommodation is on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis throughout. Other optional extras include a one-hour, private charter flight to view the Okavango Delta and a game-viewing boat trip on the Kwando River.
