Due to generous sponsorship by the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), Fair Trade Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) has announced the successful training of 19 new tour guides to service the Midlands region of KZN.
Working closely together with Zulu Mpophomeni Tourism Experience (ZMTE) and the Midlands Meander Association (MMA), candidates were carefully selected, handpicked for their current involvement in the tourism industry and their determination to move up to the next level.
Thirteen learners successfully completed the course. A further six learners will be repeating their final assessments in the near future subsequent to more time investment, experience and effort.
“Both the ZMTE and MMA are thrilled to see this very positive development and have committed to helping fast track these emerging tour guides through networking and mentoring with leading tourism bodies. All selected learners have taken to their new careers with such eagerness that we are sure they will do the region proud and be active members in sustainable tourism developments.
”We, as FTTSA, greatly appreciate the opportunity afforded to us by the NLDTF to continue to play our role in transforming South Africa’s growing tourism sector. Providing opportunities for new entrants, including tourist guides, is a critical part of transformation, and we congratulate the learners for their successful completion of the course and wish them every success in the future,” said Netsai Sibanda of FTTSA.
