Robben Island’s new ferry arrives

ROBBEN Island Museum’s (RIM) new 300-seater ferry has finally arrived and will soon be taken to dry dock at the Waterfront.

Originally expected to be delivered early last year, the ferry still has to undergo mandatory manufacturer, owner, insurer and SAMSA tests and crew orientation, which will take about three to four weeks.

Meanwhile, the museum is being audited by PriceWaterhouseCoopers after a R25m deficit was reported at the end of the last financial year.

Two of its senior managers, Nash Masekwameng (chief financial officer) and Denmark Tungwana (chief operations officer) have been placed on extended leave while the audit is under way.
