Surprise move by Fastjet may shake up SA airline scene

The ATR72-600 similar to the three Fastjet has added to its fleet. A 70-passenger configuration is the most used

Breaking news just in today that could shake-up the SA aviation scene.

Fastjet has tied up a brand licensing agreement with Federal Airlines in SA and Solenta Aviation in Mozambique.

The airline has moved its head office from London to South Africa and the move is expected to allow it to use SA as a hub.

The news was announced on the London Stock Exchange this morning (Friday).

Other developments include increasing fastjets equity by up to US$50 Million (R675 million) and the lease of three ATR 72-600 aircraft with an option to purchase.

Fastjet is a low-cost African airline that began flight operations in Tanzania in November 2012.Today, fastjet’s route network includes Tanzanian domestic routes from its Dar es Salaam base to Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, and Mwanza, and international routes from Tanzania to Lusaka in Zambia and Harare in Zimbabawe.

Fastjet’s CEO is Nico Bezuidenhout, formerly CEO of Mango Airlines where he worked since its inception for ten years. He was also acting CEO twice for SAA.
