Thompsons Africa is offering a number of new guided tours and self-drive options in the Northern Cape.
The four-day Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park package, which departs from Upington Airport, offers a remote wilderness experience. The tour starts with a drive and dune walk to watch the sun set over the Kalahari, followed by an evening game drive. On day two, a full-day game drive takes guests through the dunes to the Auob River in search of the black-maned lion. Next day, guests will participate in a guided walk, accompanied by Bushmen, to the re-created cultural village to watch Bushman crafters at work and gain insight into the Mier and Khomani San communities.
After breakfast on day four, guests return to Upington Airport. The tour includes transfers and all meals.
A number of other tours, ranging from one to four days, explore the Richtersveld National Park and surrounds. Starting at Port Nolloth, highlights include drives through Halfmens and Akkedis passes to the Hand of God. Guests have the opportunity to study plants and trees endemic to the area and found nowhere else in the world, to interact with local herders and visit the mining town of Alexander Bay, Kuboes, home to the Nama People, Kleinzee Diamond Mine and Kleinzee Museum. There is also a visit to the largest colony of Cape fur seals in the Southern Hemisphere.
Self-drive packages are also available, with the flexibility to explore the towns of the Northern Cape.
