Three suspected rhino poachers killed, four arrested in KNP

Three suspected rhino poachers were killed and four arrested in the Kruger National Park on August 27 and 28 following an anti-rhino poaching operation conducted by South African National Parks (SANParks).

On Monday August 27, SANParks rangers and investigators came into contact with a group of suspected poachers in the Shangoni Section of the KNP. One of the suspected poacher’s was fatally wounded, and a firearm and a set of rhino horns were recovered.  

On the same day in the Lower Sabie Section of the KNP, three suspected poachers were arrested and a firearm and an axe recovered.

In a follow-up anti-poaching operation at Crocodile Bridge Section in the KNP on Tuesday August 28 rangers came into contact with another group of suspected poachers, where two suspected poachers were fatally wounded, and one suspect arrested. Another firearm and two axes were recovered.

The number of rhino poached in the park as of August 27 stands at 222 and the number of arrests stand at 49.
