Angola closes part of border with DRC to avoid Ebola
ANGOLA closed part of its north-eastern border with neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Monday, January 5. Angola’s health minister, Jose Van Dunem, says the move is to stop the spread of the highly contagious Ebola virus into the country. An outbreak of the virus in the DRC’s Lunda Norte province is suspected of infecting 40 people and killing thirteen since November. All trade and movement of people between the province and Angola have been suspended. Van Dunem further states that no cases of the virus have been reported in Angola and that authorities are keeping a close eye on the country’s north-eastern provinces due to their proximity to the DRC.
