Heavy rains cause flooding in Overberg
Heavy rains on early Thursday morning caused 155mm to fall within 90 minutes in the Overberg coastal towns of Struisbaai and Agulhas. Several homes and properties were flooded and some 100 people had to be evacuated from informal settlements. The heavy rainfall also caused rockslides in Agulhas. On Friday afternoon the municipality was still trying to restore water supply to the two towns.
Meanwhile, in the North West Province, heavy rains hit the town of Klerksdorp on Thursday afternoon, flooding several homes, a hospital and the ground floor of the town’s Protea Hotel.
