Four wild dogs have been photographed in Malawi’s Kasungu National Park for the first time in more than a decade.
The sighting marks a significant milestone for conservation efforts in the region. The four females, spotted by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, are seen as evidence that wildlife corridors across the 5 366 square kilometre Malawi-Zambia Transfrontier Conservation Area are enabling the species to move more freely between habitats and resume their natural ranging behaviour.
While this does not necessarily mean that a pack has returned to Kasungu for good, the sighting suggests the ecosystem is recovering and that conservation measures are beginning to deliver results.
