Blaauwberg Beach Hotel unveils new event venue

Cape Town’s Blaauwberg Beach Hotel has launched its new venue, Sand & Sea.

Located on the 12th floor, the space is a fully enclosed, glass-fronted venue offering views across Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean.

General Manager Philippe Marechal said: “The top-floor space features both a fixed and modular bar, a plating kitchen to streamline catering, and a versatile two-level layout, ideal for formal ceremonies such as weddings or product reveals, before transitioning into more social celebrations.”

The new venue expands the hotel’s events and conferencing infrastructure to 11 venues accommodating small meetings and large events. It also forms part of its upgrade plans, which include the recent refurbishment of the LaBamba pool deck and bar, and an art gallery that showcases local artists to the public. Plans also include the full refurbishment of the Waves Restaurant, and new rooms on the 10th and 11th floors.

James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth in Cape Town, said: “This development is more than just a beautiful venue, it’s an investment in the local economy and a boost for the broader visitor experience along Cape Town’s Atlantic seaboard and into the West Coast. By creating jobs, attracting new markets, and drawing more visitors to our shores, developments like this help us drive inclusive growth and spread tourism benefits to more communities.”

The hotel’s upgrades coincide with major work undertaken by the City of Cape Town to the Blouberg beachfront area. Initially started in 2022, the work, which includes rehabilitation of the dunes, a new walkway, the addition of ablution facilities and reconfigured parking, was put on hold in late 2024 due to issues with the contractor. The City of Cape Town said in May this year that work had resumed and was expected to be completed by November 2026.
