Responding to the need for clarity around spectators attending the British & Irish Lions tour, Sebastien Carre, asked: “Why reduce the audience and do a half job?”
According to him, other countries have already experimented, and are starting to lead with COVID-safe bubbles. “We should be a global leader too, and this is an imminent opportunity to create BIG noise globally for brand SA and SA tourism,” said Carre.
He commented: “Passionate rugby fans trapped at home for over a year, WILL endure several PCR or antigen tests, and a few do’s and don'ts, to safely get to the stadiums and back home. This just needs to be guided by practical scientists, make it easier for all by being clear on what CANNOT be done, and let each make a choice.
Then encourage those already vaccinated in other countries, and those very few health workers and elders already vaccinated in SA (they deserve it!) to attend.
Once made safe in the rugby bubbles, everyone can be impressed by what SA is capable of, and either choose to leave the rugby bubbles to see more of this amazing region, or not, and go home safely. What a world stage coup this would be for brand SA!”
