Fair Trade Tourism (FTT) has launched a digital library offering free, open-access educational resources for the tourism industry. The new hub compiles existing materials from a range of partners to improve accessibility and awareness of sustainability and fair work tools within the sector.
The initiative builds on earlier research conducted in partnership with the Roundtable Human Rights in Tourism, which funded the development of the platform.
Speaking during a recent webinar on human rights in tourism, Grace Stead, FTT General Manager, said: “As part of the assessment, it was recognised that resources are available specifically for the tourism industry but how does one actually go about making sure people know about them?”
To address this, FTT compiled a single digital space where users can explore courses, webinars, guidelines and toolkits across multiple themes including human rights, sustainability and fair work.
The online platform features a “Resources” tab with searchable categories and tags, allowing users to filter by topic or type of material. Each entry lists the source, course length and format from webinars and self-paced learning modules to PDF guidelines and toolkits.
Examples of content range from webinars on decent work conditions to a variety of environmental and skills development courses. FTT has also invited organisations to submit new materials to keep the platform up to date.
“This is just the start,” Stead said. “The idea is to make these materials as free and accessible as possible, helping the tourism industry to work together and strengthen fair, sustainable practices.”
