Fifa host cities to use old and new names

IT has been agreed that 2010 Fifa World Cup host cities affected by name changes will use both their old and new names in international marketing of the event. The affected cities include Bloemfontein, (changed to Mangaung); Pretoria, (changed to Tshwane) and Port Elizabeth, (changed to Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality).

Irvan Khoza, chairman of the Fifa Local Organising Committee, says World Cup tickets will bear the double-barrelled names. “This positive step allows for the effective global promotion of the host cities while at the same time providing a good opportunity to engage visitors to the country on transformation within the country,” said Khoza.
