Industry not sold on Gauteng’s tourism growth

Although Gauteng recently reported impressive increases in its 2024/25 tourism stats, the majority of respondents to our latest poll say they have not noted an increase in visitor numbers and tourism spend in the province.

Gauteng’s MEC for Finance and Economic Development, Lebogang Maile, says international arrivals grew by over 30% to 3.8 million during the past year and international tourism revenue totalled R41 billion (US$2.3 billion) – also around 30% higher than the province’s target.

However, 58% of respondents to our poll say they have not seen increases in arrivals and spend. Just 24% have noted increases and 18% are “Unsure”.
