Inhambane tops with tourists

INVESTMENT is pouring into Mozambique’s Inhambane province. New investment in 2005 was US$400 000 more than in 2004, said Mozambique president, Armando Guebuza this week. At least US$3,2m had also been invested in 2005. Some 26 new tourism establishments opened that year, bringing to 296 the total number of lodges, camping sites and hotels in Inhambane. The province’s main attractions are the Bazaruto Archipelago, pristine beaches and abundant wildlife. Tourism statistics indicate that over 23 000 tourists visited the province in 2005, up 10% from the previous year’s 21 200. Natalia Thomson (nataliat@nowmedia.co.za)
