Kenya’s Finch Hattons camp to reopen in April

Luxury Kenyan camp, Finch Hattons, will reopen its doors at the end of April following a year-long extensive renovation costing $5.5 million (R60.3 million).

Finch Hattons lies in the heart of Tsavo West National Park, positioned around a waterhole fed by a natural spring from Mount Kilimanjaro. It is home to hippos, crocodiles, terrapins, monitor lizards and over 200 species of birds. Its location offers full views of Mount Kilimanjaro and it is in the path of seasonal elephant migrations.

The camp now comprises 17 luxury tented guest suites – 14 suites, two family suites and a presidential suite. Each suite features open-plan design with a raised deck, indoor and outdoor showers, double washbasins, flush toilet and bath.

The family suites have two rooms and a communal lounge. The presidential suite has its own heated plunge pool and includes a kitchen and a butler room. A private chef is also available for in-suite catering, at no additional cost. Meals are served throughout the lodge, with several dining options including candle-lit dinners and exclusive bush breakfasts out in the plains of the great savannah.

Tsavo West National Park, combined with the neighbouring Tsavo East, forms Kenya’s largest national park. Its entire eco system constitutes four million hectares of untouched wilderness.

Activities include game drives, guided bush walks, bird watching and cultural visits to the Masai village. The camp now has a star-gazing terrace, look-out watchtower, conference room and wellness centre. There are two treatment pavilions with an outside terrace for alfresco massages, hammam, gym, yoga studio and a spa pool. Children are also looked after with their own entertainment room equipped with board and video games, DVD player with wildlife movies.

The camp is a member of Mantis, a collection of privately owned boutique hotels and eco escapes around the world.
